Tell the world that in the United States,
we don’t detain immigrant children
While people have different views on immigration policy, there is no dissent that children must be cared for and protected in ways that take into account their vulnerabilities.
Children tell us what it’s like to be detained at Customs & Border Protection (CBP) facilities – the first place of incarceration for youth running for their lives from the violence in Central America.
- “The water available to wash my baby smells like urine.”
- “We are wearing the same clothes the entire time we have been here (three weeks).”
- “My baby has not eaten a full meal in 15 days.”
- “The bathrooms near us are very dirty. Sometimes, to punish us, the guards close the bathrooms and do not permit us to use the toilet.”
